Summer means vacations, sunshine and relaxation, but when you’re pregnant, it also means fatigue, heaviness in your legs and dull skin. So, to make the most of the summer period during pregnancy, here are some precautions to take:
Protection from the sun
The main risk of sun exposure during pregnancy is the appearance of a patch of melasma commonly known as pregnancy tanning. These pigment spots usually appear during the second trimester on the forehead, cheekbones, and around the mouth. To ensure optimal sun protection, it is essential to apply a high sun protection factor (SPF 50) sunscreen to the face and neck on a regular basis. Ideally, use a day cream with sun protection to stay protected. For the body and especially the abdomen, it is recommended to cover with clothing or a one-piece swimsuit.
Add water
Staying hydrated is important year-round, but extra care needs to be taken in summer with high temperatures. In addition, pregnant women are more prone to dehydration. So don’t hesitate to drink water regularly even before you feel thirsty. For a change of fun, you can also drink very fresh fruit juice or our delicious Matilia Pregnancy smoothie.
Clothes
Feeling comfortable in your clothes is essential during pregnancy, especially when the weather is hot. Prioritize loose, light clothing and get rid of pants that are too tight that make your legs look heavy. Finally, a hat or cap will be your favorite summer accessory to protect your head from heatstroke.
Relax
Pregnant, listen to your body and give yourself moments of relaxation. Especially in the summer when the heat can knock you down sometimes. So don’t hesitate to take a nap during the hottest hours of the day, from 1pm to 4pm. Also, increase the number of breaks in your walks or drives.
With all these tips, all you have to do is make the most of this summer!
